Terracotta Garden Pots

Terracotta garden pots are the most traditional plant pots available – they are a great material that allows your plants to breathe, and they hold warmth collected from the sun.

They also look great, their texture and color really suite the greens of shrubs, and go well with any color of flowers.

There are some disadvantages to terracotta garden pots however –

  • Frost – in colder climates, the soil in the pots can freeze, once the soil starts to thaw, the soil expands – pushing against the pots. Tiny cracks in the pots also fill with water – this freezes and thaws causing the cracks to enlarge. Eventual the pots crack.
  • Delicate – if you have pets or children, terracotta pots are easily damaged.

Most people choose plastic plant pots that resemble terracotta garden pots now – as plastic is cheaper, much stronger, and easier to move being less then half the weight of a genuine terracotta garden pot.

Terracotta garden pots are actually exact opposite in the features of plastic.
